Sono Fiammetta e mi trovo all’interno del mio Salotto, il Salotto di FiammettaV. Mi occupo di marmo, sono nata in una famiglia di imprenditori cavatori; mio padre per cinquant’anni ha lavorato nella sua cava che si trova nel monte Bettogli, qui a Carrara.
C’è una lunga storia alle spalle: questa cava viene comprata da mio nonno nel 1936 dopodiché mio padre, giovanissimo, è andato ad aiutarlo e ha iniziato a lavorare con lui. Ho un fratello, ma abbiamo preso due strade diverse. Io mi sono avvicinata alla reinterpretazione del marmo: trasformo il blocco in una parte artistica. Lavoro quindi con artisti, con designer, con architetti e da qualche anno ho creato la mia Home Collection: oggetti per la casa, oggetti quotidiani che si possono usare in tutti gli ambienti, dal tagliere al piatto, al bicchiere ma non solo.
La marble bowl è uno dei miei prodotti realizzati in marmo di Carrara, uno dei marmi delle cave di proprietà. Il marmo bianco di Michelangelo, lo Statuario, il bianco di Carrara, il Bardiglio color grigio fino ad arrivare al Paonazzo, materiale quest’ultimo proveniente unicamente dalle mie cave. Per realizzare una marble bowl i passaggi sono tantissimi, innanzitutto si ricava dallo scarto di un blocco. I blocchi possono pesare tonnellate e quando arrivano dalla cava fino al deposito vengono tagliati. Molte volte rimane una parte di questo marmo che negli anni è sempre stata abbandonata, veniva buttata via.
Io invece ho avuto l’idea di recuperare questo materiale, questo scarto e di realizzare i miei oggetti. A sua volta questi pezzi di marmo vengono tagliati di nuovo e l’artigiano si troverà un piccolo blocchetto che inizierà ad essere lavorato con i macchinari. La rifinitura è sempre data dall’artigiano che, con le proprie mani, finirà il prodotto.
Questo procedimento viene fatto più o meno con tutti i prodotti che trovate nella mia collezione.
Mi piace lavorare con gli artigiani. Collaboro con un team di artigiani locali di Carrara tra cui Augusto, Riccardo, Mario che hanno laboratori old-style, quando entri ti ritrovi completamente nel mondo del marmo. Con loro ho un rapporto che dura da 10 anni, non è soltanto lavorativo ma è anche un rapporto familiare. Proprio con loro passo delle giornate a cercare di ideare qualcosa di nuovo, di diverso, che possa entrare nelle case delle persone.

I am Fiammetta and I am inside my Salotto di FiammettaV. I deal with marble, I was born into a family of entrepreneurs quarrymen; my father for fifty years worked in his quarry which is located in Monte Bettogli, here in Carrara.
There is a long history behind it: this quarry was bought by my grandfather in 1936 and then his son, very young, begin helping him and started working with him. I have a brother, but we took two different paths. I approached the reinterpretation of marble: I transform the block into an artistic part. So I work with artists, designers and architects, and a few years ago I created my Home Collection: objects for home, everyday items that can be used in all environments, from the cutting board to the plate, to the glass, and so on.
The marble bowl is one of my products made of Carrara marble, one of the marbles of the quarries I own. The white marble of Michelangelo, the Statuario, the white marble of Carrara, the Bardiglio grey marble up to the Paonazzo marble, which comes only from my quarries. To make a marble bowl the steps are many, first of all it is obtained from the waste of a block. The blocks can weigh tons and when they arrive from the quarry to the warehouse they are cut. Many times there is a part of this marble that has always been abandoned over the years, it was thrown away.
Instead, I had the idea of recovering this material, this waste, and making my own objects. In turn, these pieces of marble are cut again and the craftsman will have a small block that will begin to be worked with the machinery. The finishing is always given by the craftsman who, with his own hands, will finish the product.
This process is done with pretty much every product you find in my collection.
I enjoy working with artisans. I collaborate with a team of local artisans in Carrara including Augusto, Riccardo, Mario who have old-style workshops, when you enter you find yourself completely in the world of marble. I have a relationship with them that has lasted 10 years, not only a working one but also a family relationship. I spend days with them trying to create something new and different that can be part of people's houses.
